Milles Garden

Beyond the EFA conference, I only have one free afternoon and one night in Stockholm. Among so many interesting places, I chose to visit Milles Garden. It's home and art studio for an artist couple Carl and Olga Milles, located on the cliff of Herserud high above lake Värtan.

It was a beautiful drizzling afternoon. Each sculpture, made by wood, bronze, stone, was bathed in fine rain.

Carl Milles loves sky and sea. A series of his sculptures are sit on top poles at a terrace that overlooks Lake Värtan. It's like numina dancing within the embrace of sky and sea.

I was filled with creative freshness and fantasy. Here rides a winged Pegasus through the air; there sea-nymphs splash water over mossy stones.

And there are little visitors such as a snail and various fruits, apple, pear, tomato, in the garden.

Walking into the world of Carl Milles, I wander: What is the ideal life for an artist? From an apprentice to a famous sculptor, what leads to his success beyond his talent? Surely he is lucky to have his own large studio to implement his imagination and inspiration. However there must be something more contributing to his success. I guess he must be a person with passion and sensitivity for life and love, -- even a kitchen corner is well designed with every , even the pattern of tiles. He must be a person with utter innocence. He loves music, having one piano in studio and even having a music room holding organ, a second piano, and other instruments.

But again, what is the most important thing for an artist? Creativity? I guess that's only a small part of his life. More is about implementation of any creative ideas, which requires discipline and hardworking.

My dear reader, what do you think? I am open for a discussion; please let me know your thoughts.
